WHOI engineer Korey Verhein works on the remotely operated vehicle (ROV) Medea prior to departure on the research vessel Atlantis recently. Medea is part of the ROV Jason system and is designed to abosrb movement from the ship they are tethered to so that Jason can work undisturbed on the seafloor. Jason and Medea are currently diving at Brothers volcano northeast of New Zealand as part of Dive & Discover Expedition 16 to explore hydrothermal vents inside the caldera.
