Image Of the Day caption:
The Deep Rover 2 (foreground) in the water after being launched from R/V Alucia with a team that includes WHOI engineer Mike Skowronski (left inside the sphere) looking on from Nadir, a Triton 3300-3 submersible. Skowronski together with Anthony Tarantino, Phil Forte, and Mike McCarthy supported the refit and eventual classification by the American Bureau of Shipping of the DR2 for dive operations to 1000 meters. The WHOI team worked with Alucia submersible lead Mark Taylor and the sub's pilots on the vehicle overhaul, integrating several new components, including a new acrylic personnel sphere, new hydraulic power unit and Shilling Titan 4 manipulator.
