Image Of the Day caption:
WHOI biologist Scott Lindell (far right) and research assistant David Bailey (center) traveled to Morocco recently, where they worked with members of the National Agency for the Development of Aquaculture and the Cala Iris Fishing Cooperative to train local staff on the operation of specialized mussel farming machinery. Here, they work with a mussel socking machine, which creates a place for juvenile mussels to take hold and grow after being suspended in the water. They also provided training in tools and techniques to harvest and process mussels for market. Their goal is to help Morocco develop a sustainable aquaculture industry.
