Sunlight greeted us this morning as dawn broke. (Well, dawn doesn't exactly break up here. You can only tell that it is dawn, or noon, or midnight, by looking at your watch-certainly not by looking outside.) The icebreaker Oden found itself in a pocket of sunlight. In front was a low fog bank, filled with cold, tiny water droplets. As sunlight streamed through the fog bank, the droplets refracted the sunlight to create an Arctic phenomenon called a "fogbow." Most of the day, Oden steered directly toward it, like a proud warrior marching home through a grand ceremonial arch.
