Caption from Oceanus magazine, Vol. 52, No. 2, pg. 40:
1. Controlled Source Electromagnetic sensing uses transmitters towed by a ship to send electromagnetic signals down through the ocean and into the seafloor.
2. Receivers detect returning signals. Stronger returning electronmagnetic signals indicate weaker electrical conductivity of the water they pass through.
3. Since fresh water is a poor conductor of electrical currents, CSEM can distinguish it from salt water and other types of fluids.
