WHOI collaborated with ocean advocates to bring the installation, by the artist group SUPERFLEX, to the UN to highlight the biodiversity of the ocean twilight zone and its role in combating climate change. To celebrate the installation, WHOI hosted the live virtual event, “Illuminating the Abyss” featuring special guests James Cameron, Ray Dalio, Edith Widder, and WHOI President and Director Peter de Menocal. Vertical Migration seeks to draw global attention to the critical role of the ocean in global climate, a primary focus of WHOI’s Ocean Twilight Zone Project.
