Beaufort Gyre Freshwater Experiment.
Image of The Day caption:
In the summer of 2005, a WHOI research team, led by John Kemp and Rick Krishfield, surveyed floes in the Beaufort Sea in search of ice thick enough for deployment of an ice-tethered profiler. WHOI scientists have been deploying instruments and making observations near both Poles for decades, but special efforts are being made this year as part of the International Polar Year. Today is the third International Polar Day and the mid-way point in the global effort.
