Brett Walker, a former Summer Student Fellow, working in the National Ocean Sciences Accelerator Mass Spectrometry Facility (NOSAMS) in 2004. Accelerator mass spectrometry is a method of radiocarbon analysis where atoms of Carbon 14 contained in a sample are counted. Applications include dating of sedimentary deposits and detailed studies of circulation and carbon cycling in the modern ocean.
