Marilena Oltmanns, Physical Oceanography.
Marilena Oltmanns grew up in northern Germany, between the North and Baltic Seas, where she cherished the beautiful wide beaches and sand dunes, the stony and impressively steep cliff lines, and pretty islands that could be reached by foot during low tide. Always an ambitious riddle-solver, she was happy to discover that the ocean is full of unsolved mysteries and in her professional life, she strives to better understand its interactions with the atmosphere and how they affect us. She completed her Ph.D. in June 2015 and continues research back in northern ] Germany. Out of the lab, she was a staunch member of the MIT table tennis team. Her mentor for this article was Noah Hoffenberg, former editor of The Cape Cod Times.
