The event is held at MIT every year and at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) every five years. Graduates from the past five years will be celebrated today at the Quissett campus in Woods Hole. The 2010 class includes eight students earning master's degrees and 23 earning doctoral degrees. Their commencement speaker will be marine microbiologist Rita R. Colwell, Distinguished University Professor at the University of Maryland and The Johns Hopkins University and former director of the National Science Foundation.
