Image Of the Day caption:
The quaint and venerable Walsh Cottage on the WHOI Village Campus is empty most of the year, but every summer since 1959, it is home to a select group of graduate students who come to WHOI to study with some of the world's leading oceanographers, physicists, and mathematicians in the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Program. The field focuses on the fundamental physics of fluids, which applies to oceanography, meteorology, astrophysics, and a host of other fields. Some consider the porch at Walsh Cottage a sacred place, where hundreds of top-flight young scientists have come to learn. The annual front-porch portrait is a 59-year-old tradition.
