Image Of the Day caption:
Members of the Wampanoag tribal nation (foreground) welcome the crew from the HMkkle'a at WHOI this summer. Hokule'a is a traditional Polynesian sailing canoe currently on a round-the-world tour to highlight traditional navigation methods and knowledge of the ocean. The welcome ceremony included a performance of a song written about the vessel and its journey by the children of the Neekun School, a Wampanoag language immersion program on Cape Cod. The HMkkle?a team later attended the Mashpee Wampanoags 95th annual powwow as guests of honor.
