Image Of the Day caption:
Members of the Coastal Systems Group led by Jeff Donnelly (far right) took to the high seas of Salt Pond in Falmouth, Mass., this summer to collect sediment cores from the bottom of the coastal pond. Donnelly and others in the group examine the cores from the Canadian Maritimes to the Caribbean to assemble a history of large storms in the western North Atlantic. Their work is not only painting a picture of the past, but also helping improve understanding of what the future may hold in a changing climate.
