Image Of the Day caption:
The submersible Alvin recently completed a major upgrade and is now back exploring the ocean. Some of the major improvements include a new, bigger, and more ergonomic personnel sphere, a modified titanium frame, new flotation, improved imaging and lighting, and increased robotic arm maneuverability. Learn about these new systems, from Megan Carroll (left), one of the WHOI engineers who worked on the sub, this afternoon in the Ocean Science Exhibit Center at the first of our 2014 Science Made Public lectures.
