Image of The Day caption:
WHOI scientist Bernhard Peucker-Ehrenbrink demonstrates how to sample river water for participants in the Woods Hole Global Rivers project. The project addresses the flow of water, sediments, and nutrients into the oceans from major river basins worldwide. Researchers from WHOI, the Woods Hole Research Center, and other institutions are studying the Ganges and Brahmaputra in India and Bangladesh, the Yangtze in China, the Lena and Kolyma in Russia, the Congo in central Africa, and the Fraser and Mackenzie in Canada. They have enlisted collaborators in each locale and developed techniques that can be used by volunteers with little specialized training. Peucker-Ehrenbrink is currently on expedition to the Fraser River.
