Image Of the Day caption:
WHOI geologists Konrad Hughen and Colleen Hansel core into a Porites lobata coral colony on the leeward side of Danger Island in the Chagos Archipelago of the British Indian Ocean Territory. The core will be analyzed for its chemical composition in order to examine past changes in climate and coral health. The WHOI team was helping survey coral reefs as part of the Khaled bin Sultan Living Oceans Foundation's Global Reef Expedition.
