Image Of the Day caption:
WHOI geophysicist Jian Lin (right) with summer student Yen Joe Tan observe waves created during a tsunami experiment at Trunk River in Falmouth, Mass. Lin and colleagues have studied earthquakes and tsunamis worldwide. Recently Lin and Tan used three-dimensional computational models to investigate a devastating tsunami triggered by the 1883 eruption of the Indonesian volcano Krakatau, which was one of the largest eruptions in recent history that also generated tsunamis that claimed close to 36,000 lives.
