Image of The Day caption:
WHOI/MIT Joint Program graduate students Clayton Kunz (foreground) and Chris Murphy (background) test a newly-built SeaBED autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) at the WHOI dock. Developed in Hanumant Singh's Lab of the WHOI Applied Ocean Physics and Engineering Department, SeaBED AUVs have been utilized on missions ranging from shallow coral reef surveys to searches for deep sea hydrothermal vents. This SeaBED AUV, which was developed specifically for fisheries applications in collaboration with the Northwest Fisheries Science Center and the Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center, will head for warmer waters in Hawaii after testing.
