Image Of the Day caption:
A life-size bronze statue of author, researcher, and environmental advocate Rachel Carson seems to be watching as the research vessel Altantis returned to Woods Hole recently. Carson worked for many years in Woods Hole, an experience that inspired her to write the book The Sea Around Us, in which she wrote, "The edge of the sea is a strange and beautiful place." Atlantis was far from the edge of the sea, but in a no less strange and beautiful place: It spent the past month carrying researcers to the middle of the North Atlantic to study the link between plankton and Earth's climate.
