Image Of The Day caption:
This aerial photo of Woods Hole village shows the two large WHOI-operated research vessels, Atlantis, left, and Knorr, right, at the WHOI dock overlooking Great Harbor. Many improvements have been made to the WHOI dock since it was first built in the 1930s. In 1969 the WHOI expanded its waterfront presence, building the 300 x 500 triangular-shaped Iselin marine facility to house the shops, electronics and acoustics group, the marine electricians and others. The new dock was completed in 1969, just before the delivery of the R/V Knorr to WHOI in 1970. Water depth at the shore-side of the dock is 20 feet, and 70 feet at the end of the dock, making it a natural deepwater port.
