Image Of the Day caption:
On December 5, WHOI commemorated the career of the research vessel Knorr, which will be retired from the U.S. oceanographic fleet this month. During the event, the ship's current captain, Kent Sheasley (center), asked his crew to step forward to be acknowledged by the crowd. "Captains are nothing without their crew," said Sheasley. In 2015, Sheasley and much of his crew will move to their new home, R/V Neil Armstrong, where they will continue to provide a commitment to ocean science that had become a hallmark of Knorr and its crew.
