In September 2011, Bob Weller prepared to depart the WHOI dock on R/V Oceanus, on a cruise to deploy a crucial test buoy as part of the Ocean Observatories Initiative. This week, Weller will be inducted as a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Each year, the association bestows the honor on only a few of its 120,000 members. Wellers work focuses on physical processes in the upper ocean, the oceans role in climate, and the development of new oceanographic tools and techniques.
