Image of The Day caption:
WHOI's Board and Corporation have made significant contributions to the Institution's work since its founding in 1930. New York estate and trust lawyer Lawrason Riggs Jr. (left) was treasurer the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole when WHOI was being organized. He was involved in the new institution's incorporation, helped draft its bylaws, and then served as treasurer of the corporation from 1930 to 1950. Others in the photo taken on the pier are WHOI's second director, Columbus Iselin (behind Riggs), and scientists Ben Leavitt and Henry Stetson. The current Board and Corporation meet May 23-24 to discuss Institution business and learn more about ocean science.
