Domenico Mussardo is a visiting student working with Claudia Cenedese. He is currently regularly enrolled in his second and last year of Master Degree Programme in the course of Environmental Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering of Sapienza University in Roma. He studies the dynamics of buoyant current interactions in a series of analytical studies and laboratory experiments on rotating table tank conducted to track the adjustment of coupled buoyant currents and quantify the development and structure of frontal instabilities. The principle objectives of these studies are to: determine the details of the crossshore and vertical structure of buoyancy and velocity within two interacting buoyant currents and their dependence on control parameters including density anomaly, current transport, bottom slope, and rotation rate; and quantify the stability of "coupled" fronts of two adjacent currents.

Domenico Mussardo, a guest student from the University of Rome "La Sapienza", spent spring 2010 at WHOI working with Claudia Cenedese, who studies ocean currents with laboratory experiments using tanks mounted on specially constructed rotating tables that simulate Earth's rotation. Here he sets up an experiment in the geophysical fluid dynamics laboratory, using dyed water for visibiity.
